When you live with depression, simply getting through the day feels like climbing an impossible mountain.
A typical day for you might look like this…
In the morning, you wake up already wishing you were back asleep. Maybe you’ve hardly slept or maybe you’ve slept too much. You dread opening your eyes because you know it’s the start of another day of sadness, boredom, or no feelings at all. You eventually find the motivation to get out of bed and you go about your day, pretending you’re OK. Wishing the depression would dissipate but feeling helpless against it. Few things bring you joy anymore and it’s difficult to find pleasure in daily living.
Your relationships are suffering but you can’t seem to connect with people on a deeper level. It takes too much energy and you don’t even know where to start. Perhaps you turn to addictive substances (alcohol, food, drugs) or activities (doom scrolling, TV, shopping) to numb the pain and make the day go by faster. When it’s time to go to sleep at night, you feel like another day has been wasted and you just wish you could be happy.
With the help of therapy, you can rediscover joy, meaning, and connection in your life.
Call us today to schedule a FREE consultation at (720)-580-3866 to explore getting started with your depression therapy treatment.

Depression is common…and it’s not all genetic
While you may feel alone in your struggle, depression affects millions of people. In fact, nearly 1 in 3 US adults will be diagnosed with depression in their lifetime.1
Many of us were taught that depression is the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain, and that some people are genetically more likely to develop this imbalance. While this is true, there are many reasons why a person may develop depression and genetics only plays a part. In fact, genes only determine about one-third of a person’s risk for depression.2 Most people with a family history do not develop depression, and many who do experience depression have no family history at all.
This means that non-genetic (environmental) factors are twice as important in the development of depression. The good news is, many of these factors can be addressed in therapy!
Here are some known contributors to depression:
- Chronic stress
- Loneliness and social isolation
- Life transitions
- Financial stress
- Trauma
- Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
- Poor diet, lifestyle, and sleep
- Hormonal changes (e.g., during postpartum or menopause)
At Rocky Mountain Relational Therapy in Arvada, we take a bio-psycho-social approach to treating clients, which means we work with people holistically. We understand that depression (and other mental health conditions) are multi-faceted. We see you as a whole person, not just your symptoms or a collection of genes. You will always receive comprehensive and personalized care, no matter what your goals are.
Rediscover Joy and Meaning with Depression Therapy
Therapy is effective at treating depression and helps most people feel better. Research shows that up to 70% of people see big improvements in their depression symptoms with psychotherapy.3
Therapy works because it helps you understand and change the negative thoughts and habits that contribute to depression. It also teaches practical skills to manage stress and emotions, while providing a safe space to feel heard and supported. Therapy can help you heal from past hurts, build healthier habits, and find more joy and connection in your life.
What to expect in therapy for depression

Tailoring treatment to fit your needs
Each of our therapists are experts in a variety of evidenced-based modalities (hyperlink) to help clients heal from depression. Our approach to therapy is compassionate, holistic and solution-focused. Instead of focusing solely on the problem, we focus on what it is you truly want and how to get there. Some of the modalities are therapists are trained in for depression include:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): Helps individuals process and heal by using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to rewire distressing memories.
Somatic Psychotherapy: A body-centered approach that integrates talk therapy with awareness of bodily sensations to release emotions/trauma and regulate the nervous system.
Narrative Therapy: A collaborative, story-based approach that helps clients separate themselves from their problems and rewrite empowering personal narratives.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Parts Work Therapy: Explores and heals inner “parts” or sub-personalities, fostering self-compassion and internal harmony.
Art Therapy: Uses visual art-making as a way to express, explore, and process emotions and experiences.
Nervous System Regulation: helps individuals calm or energize their physiological state to support emotional balance, resilience, and healing.
Brainspotting: A trauma-focused therapy that uses eye position to access and process deeply held emotional and somatic pain stored in the brain and body.

Transforming Darkness into Light
It’s possible to feel joy and fulfillment again. In fact, when we have the right support, even the darkest moments of a person’s life can lead to incredible transformation. These “dark nights of the soul” are fertile ground for understanding who you truly are and creating the life of your dreams. We’re here to help you do that.
All of the therapists at Rocky Mountain Relational Therapy in Arvada have recovered from significant mental health challenges, including depression, eating disorders, anxiety, and trauma. This is why we are so passionate about psychotherapy. Because we know it works.
Maybe You’re Curious About Treatment for Depression But You Have Some Concerns…
I’ll have to open up and be vulnerable with a stranger
We get it. It can be daunting to be vulnerable and share your feelings with someone you hardly know at first. Yet, the therapy setting is unlike anywhere else in the world because the person you are talking to is entirely there for you. That means our therapists have no other agenda than to help you heal and grow. One of the ways we do that is by providing a non-judgmental space for you to be seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are.
Therapy might work for others but it won’t work for me
You are not the exception to recovery. While it’s true your depression and path to healing are unique to you, you are not more “broken” than anyone else. You deserve, and are capable of, living an amazing life, no matter what you’ve been through. We tailor therapy to each individual to meet your specific goals.
Therapy will feel like torture! I don’t want to feel painful emotions
Certainly, therapy can be a process of exploring negative experiences. It’s often necessary to bring compassionate awareness to your pain in order to heal it. However, our therapists know it’s not enough to focus solely on the problem. We incorporate laughter and positivity into the healing process, balancing darkness and light. Doing so helps create a happy, healthy brain.
Life will never be perfect, but you can be happy
If depression is impacting your ability to thrive and live your best life, therapeutic treatment can help. Contact us to schedule a free, 15-minute consultation or to find out more about depression therapy in Arvada.
