Alison Shea

Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, MA, MFT-C · (720) 907-3653

I am an evidence-based therapist who incorporates neuroscience and how the brain works to sustain meaningful change.

Do you feel like you’re repeating the same conflicts or unhealthy behaviors over and over again? Have you tried to change only to see old habits creep back in, despite your best efforts? My brain-based approach promotes the development of new neural networks that are more in alignment with what you really want.

My work with couples centers on improving communication, building trust, and increasing emotional and physical intimacy. Together, we co-create a relationship founded on deep love and a restored sense of playfulness and connection. By addressing the underlying relational patterns that lead to dysfunction, recurring problems are eliminated.

My work with individuals focuses on improving self-worth, restoring a loving connection with the body, and improving secure attachment so that you can live in alignment with your truth. Together, we create a space where emotions can be felt and understood. Negative core beliefs, trauma, and unhealthy coping mechanisms are processed and released in order to build the life you desire.

I have extensive training in sex therapy and welcome clients who seek to address issues related to sexuality, gender, and intimacy.

My approach to therapy is compassionate, holistic and solution-focused. Instead of focusing solely on the problem, we focus on what it is you truly want and how to get there. I have healed from severe trauma, addiction, and loss, and now live a life of deep peace and joy. I can help you do the same.

Alison sees clients in-person and via telehealth using a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform. She has availability Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and is currently offering limited sliding-scale rates. “My partner and I saw Alison for about three to four months in 2023. She did a tremendous job in helping us emotionally process some of the conflicts between us. She also helped us explore some deep seated issues we were having in our relationship that we either did not know existed or I was too afraid to bring up outside of a session with Alison. Alison is wonderful to work with, and made us feel safe and comfortable. I feel much closer to my partner than when I started therapy with Alison. I appreciate her candor and strategies for improving our relationship.”

“Going to therapy has always been a struggle for me. I found it difficult to really find a therapist I “clicked” with. Most of my previous sessions felt more like talking to a bot than a human being. Alison changed that for me! Because of her, I finally felt like I was able to be myself and really dive into my feelings; knowing I would be heard and understood. She also taught me many useful coping techniques that I am using everyday. I am incredibly thankful for my time with Alison.”

“We started with Alison for family therapy with my teenage sons. It improved our communication so much my husband and I started couples counseling as well. Alison was so kind and understanding it helped us talk through issues that we hadn’t ever opened up about. We always felt better afterwards and using the skills she taught us our relationship is now better than ever. I only wish we had started sooner! I would recommend Alison to anyone, she is truly gifted at what she does.”
